In 1903 Seitei published the second of his three woodblock-printed books with pictures of flowers and birds. Not surprisingly, it was entitled Kachō Gafu (Picture Album of Flowers and Birds). All twenty-three of the book’s pictures are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Two innovative features of this book are first, the depiction of the same flower and (or) bird species in more than just one picture and second, placing a flower or bird close to the edge of the picture with some of its parts outside the picture’s frame.
